    Default Why Travel Insurance important?

Do not forget to include travel insurance in your to do list before planning your travel. Most people take travel insurance lightly and never discuss travel insurance in detail with their travel agents. It is important to know what your travel insurance covers you against in the event of any unforeseen situations which may subject you to a financial loss or otherwise.
Travel insurance covers different features and it is up to you to choose and ensure you are adequately covered. The first and most common is Trip Cancellation/Interruption coverage. Most of these policies cover cancellations due to weather, sudden illness, death and emergencies whilst at home or abroad.
Another common type of travel insurance is for medical emergencies. This type of coverage is particularly useful if you plan on traveling to underdeveloped countries, or for individuals with an on going illness that might require medical attention at some point during the trip. These policies will reimburse you for the cost of doctor visits, medication, and sometimes even medical evacuation out of the country. It's best to check with your insurance provider regarding the details, as travel health coverage policies vary widely.
It is also possible to obtain travel insurance that will cover non-refundable tickets in the event that a trip has to be cancelled for any number of reasons. Some coverage plans will sometimes cover missed connections as well, which can be a lifesaver in the event of a flight delay or over-crowded and/or confusing airport terminal.
For longer trips, or for frequent travelers, a comprehensive insurance package is probably the best value. These usually provide a wide variety of coverage, and some even allow you to choose what kinds of coverage to be included. Since it's impossible to know what problems might arise during your trip, these policies cover all the bases so that you have protection against monetary loss in the event of nearly any emergency.

Are you planning an overseas travel? If yes, a constant debate running through your mind would be, to purchase travel insurance or not.
In the current situation of recession, a traveler may be tempted to skip travel insurance to save even that little amount of money. Medical Expenses: Medical treatment abroad is very expensive. At least 10 times your home country! In an unfortunate event of an accident or sickness, requiring urgent medical attention, Travel Insurance comes very handy. A Travel insurance policy extends financial assistance, up to the limits specified under the travel policy.
You may lose money paid towards airline tickets, hotel bookings etc which are non refundable. A travel insurance policy will provide you a cover for the same
Loss or delay of Checked Baggage: Compensation is paid for the permanent loss of checked-in baggage.

    Thanks for good tips...........
While you may consider yourself to be in good health there are always unexpected accidents waiting to happen. It's much better to be safe than sorry. Travel insurance can also cover loss of luggage or other personal belongings such as passports and money, repatriation costs and cancelled or delayed flights. Also, damage that you may cause to third parties is also covered in many cases. With all these potential expenses, it's easy to see why a comprehensive travel insurance policy is highly recommended.

Travel insurance is important because it protects travelers when unforeseen circumstances occur after they've booked and paid for their trip. This insurance also safeguards travelers if emergencies arise once they reach their destination.

On the topic, "Do You Need Travel Insurance," the article stated:

"Lose your job before your trip? You're probably out of luck."

Not necessarily so! Please note that all of the four types of Worldwide Trip Protector plans offered by Travel Insured DO include full Trip Cancellation coverage in the event of a job termination or lay-off of you or your travel partner prior to your insured trip. This "Job Loss Protection" only requires that you have one year of continuous employment at the place of employment where your job is terminated. Lose your job and you can receive up to a full reimbursement of your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs.

I agree with travelgenie. very useful information you have shared your article.Amazingly, 15% of travelers still risk traveling abroad without travel insurance, which could result in financial ruin if they required medical treatment. Travel insurance provides you with a safety circle against the most common of problems that can happen while you are on holiday.

Travel insurance is important because it protects travelers when unexpected circumstances happen after they've booked and paid for their trip. The insurance helps travelers if they have to cancel their vacation plans because of personal situations or errors on the part of travel agencies and airlines. This insurance also safeguards travelers if emergencies arise once they reach their destination.

Cemroon- I've tried to answer on the post you've started.
If you're going for as long as 3 months, perhaps you should look at annual insurance. I've no idea how much that will be, as it depends on so many factors.
You're best bet is to go to an internet search for insurance, such as Go Compare. They'll have facts which we who don't even know your age, can't tell you. Other than that, go to your supermarket or a travel agency.

Domestic travel is a different matter- you know the language, the medical facilities, the number of the bank, how to buy a new ticket. You've a good idea of how people think and respond...
As soon as you're in a different country, things change.....where do you go for assistance; who speaks English fluently enough; how much do things cost? You may not even know the emergency number....I was in a minor assault in the USA, and would have dialled 999 as usual, if it had been any worse!!!
You may be lucky and get away with no insurance.....we've not had to use ours so far, but I'd dread to think what I'd have to pay in some lands for something as simple as a broken bone, never mind being air lifted out.

I have had many friends who were more than happy they had spent the "extra money" for travel insurance before traveling! One friend's mother passed away the day before she was to travel to Ireland with a group; another friend fell and broke her leg in three places two days before her planned trip overseas; still another friend suffered a heart attack while traveling in Europe. It's well worth the money!

My wife and I had to cancel a weeks ($3,000)vacation to Atlantis in the Bahamas due to a medical problem my wife had 2 days before our scheduled departure. We had purchased trip insurance from Trip-Mate. After cancelling the vacation, I read many complaints online about Trip-Mate and I was very worried about getting our money back. Atlantis refunded about half of our payment immediately and said we would have to get the remainder from Trip-Mate. We submitted our claim that included a letter from the Emergency Room Doctor stating that she shouldn't travel for at least two weeks. I'm glad to report that, after 17 days and many phone calls and emails, we did receive a full refund today. All we lost was the $158 cost of the insurance.

Sorry to hear that, Twisner.....people think it can't happen to them, but, oh, how it can!
We had paid in full for a back to back cruise this May, and my husband has had an accident resulting in a crushed foot. The plaster cast will come off just before the cruise, but his specialist says that he will have to have at least 6 week's treatment after that, and maybe a small, light cast. There will be a letter from the specialist, and one from the GP, but we don't think there will be any problems. In the UK, you can't get on a cruise ship without insurance, as the EU has many laws concerning travel out of the country and passenger's rights.

I have always puchased travel insurance when taking a cruise. Never had to ever file a claim with a travel insurance company before. We used to purchase the insurance because my wife's mother is 93 and in bad health. Now we've started buying it due to our own age and health problems. Such is life!!

We hunt around, especially with the charities for the aged ( which we, too, have had to accept is happening to us!) We also look at the charity for diabetes, which OH has very mildly....they can advise which insurers to go with.

Thumbs up Re: Why Travel Insurance important?

I have always used Travel Insured International and NEVER had any problems at all with claims for cancelled plans, medical emergency returns (only one, thankfully), etc. I wouldn't travel outside the U.S. without travel insurance, period!
