Default Combining Guatemala Trip with Costa Rica

My husband and I would like to visit Guatemala and Costa Rica. It looks as though a flight between Guatemala City and San Jose is quite expensive and a bus ride is inexpensive but 2 1/2 days long. Any suggestions? It may be that two separate trips might be the most practical.
Also, we have a couple of free nights in Totuguero which I understand is in a rain forest.
What is the closest beach resort to there, and the easiest way to get to it?

    Default Combining Guatemala/Costa Rica Trip

If you are traveling from North America it is so easy when you know how. I have been a guide in the region for over 15 years and did over 20 "stopover from Costa Rica" trips for clients in El Salvador and Guatemala in the late 1990s If you are coming from Atlanta assuming you are taking Delta or American RT, see if your airline will allow you to stopover at Guatemala(GUA) or nearby San Salvador, El Salvador(SAL)for 4-5 days on return at no extra cost. My clients all had this arrangement with United and all were thrilled to be able to view the rich cultures and mayan ruins in El Salvador and Guatemala after the "tourist hordes" of Costa Rican Beaches. Default The Buses

If you have only a RT Air Ticket from one point in Central America and return to North America, but have time to travel around, the First Class Pullman bus Services like TICA BUS which plys from Guatemala to Panama and return (4.5 days) daily and luxury bus services like King Quality, NicaBus and Pullmantur from Guatemala and El Salvador to Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica fares from $40 RT are wonderful for the traveler on a budget who would like to see different countries and cultures. Central America is a small Isthmus and much can be seen on a 2 or 3 week journey. More info E mail me salbiztours@yahoo.com
