An airport shuttle would save money, time and, on more exotic adventures, the frustration of haggling in a foreign language after a long flight, but I have to say that it really bugs me that more hotels don't offer free wifi, or even reasonably-priced wi-fi. And why is it that the cheaper hotels and motels are more likely to offer this than the more expensive chains?
I can't manage a hotel stay without a kettle in the room. Even the cheapest motel has to offer this, or else I don't return.
There's a complex of 3 hotels by Southampton station, all owned by the same firm, and they offer rooms at different prices. We've tried them all, before we go cruising, but one, the Etap, is absolutely basic....we don't mind that, as we tumble off the train in the late evening, and only need a bed- and a kettle! The lack of a kettle means that we won't be booking there again....

This was a pretty tough call, actually. I usually don't take a laptop with me on leisure trips, so I'm not too fussed about wifi (though I definitely appreciate it when I'm on a work trip). I ended up voting for breakfast because I can't start the day without it, but honestly...some hotels have such horrible breakfasts that it's not even worth it. (All sugary, pre-wrapped, processed pastries plus a few mealy-looking apples? Yuck.)
I want to get away when I travel therefore I only want access to a computer to print my boarding passes. But, what I REALLY want is a mini fridge and microwave. I will not stay in a hotel without them. Controling food costs while traveling really helps to stretch that budget.
We like to stay at 3½-4 star hotels, but as pointed out here, many of them still charge extra for internet access. Unless we are getting a super-great deal where the regular room cost plus internet fee is so low we can't resist, we go where the internet is included. Wired or wi-fi isn't important to us, in fact, we prefer a good desk with wired internet access.
At this point, internet access is an essential, and to our mind would be like charging extra for blankets or pillows.
I thought when I get out of the road, so I just want to get the computer to print my boarding pass. But I really want is a small refrigerator and microwave. I will not stay in the hotel without them.
