Default Finding Work In Brazil- World Cup and Olympics

    Hello,

I'm looking to find work in Brazil for the world cup and olympics. Does anyone have any ideas on where to start looking/applying? Google searches haven't turned up much and calls to the Brazilian consulate in the USA have yet to be returned.

    Any ideas/thoughts are appreciated.

    Thanks.

    What type of work?

Note: You cannot legally work (or even volunteer) in Brazil on a tourist visa.
Most jobs in Brazil are secured by QI (quem indica=who recommended you that the boss personally knows well ).
Any company wishing to hire and apply for a work visa on behalf of a potential foreign employee must specify that there are no Brazilians existing with the skills to do the particular job, an expensive, time consuming proposition that few, if any, would attempt for an unknown.
Salaries in Brazil are quite low and might not even cover living expenses during those events when prices, for accomodation in particular, are sure to soar.
There are, IMO, a more than adequate number of Brazilians who speak English, as well as fluent Portuguese, and know their cities well, to handle the tourist traffic for these events.

Perhaps think about applying to a U.S. or other foreign based company that might transfer you to Brazil. Or set up your own tour business, based in your place of residence, to form groups of tourists to guide around Brazil.

    vida na praia -

you seem like you know this subject pretty well so I hope you can point me into the right direction. I am an American and I'm moving to brasil next December to teach English. However, my boyfriend, who is Brazilian, is moving with me. What kind of jobs could he start checking into for the World Cup/Olympics.

    Hi,

I think basically the only chance for work might be is teaching english and in general, one must possess the proper credentials (i.e. passing the TOEFL exam) in order to get hired into a legitimate school. Also, Brasil is a large country.......if you were to be certified and get placed, your schedule and location may not permit being in/around the World Cup stadium. In general, one cannot obtain legal work in a country unless they are citizens, have a proper work visa - generally obtained by an employer for a transferring employee, or obtain legal residency and that is not easy as it generally requires proof of your finances and that you would not be a burden on the country for things like healthcare, housing, etc., i.e. be independently wealthy.

I think your best and only option is learning to teach english; there are many programs you can enroll in to obtain the necessary credentials to find work. Check out www.transitionsabroad.com, www.ciee.org to start with as they are great gateways into getting to live/work abroad. Good luck.
