How to find out if a tour company is reputable?

Advenures Abroad, based in Canada but with a branch in the NW USA, is the one I am looking into as they are offering a tour of Southern India in th efall of 2013 that is so reasonably priced, I can only wonder what kind of places we would be staying in etc...not to mention I need to be sure they are above board re refunds,etc...

I am not familiar with Adventures Abroad, but you should look at their website to see if they are affiliated with any professional organizations. There must be some Canadian equivalent of the ASTA (I think there is an international version--IASTA??). You could then inquire through such organizations if there had been numerous complaints about the company. Since there is a branch of the company in the US, then the Better Business Bureau might be a good source of information about the company. You might also look on Trip Advisor to see if there have been any reviews of their tours.
