So many great choices! I would love love love a spa/yoga retreat but equally excited about a history type vacation. Culinary and wine is up there for me as well ... If I could roll them all into one vacation we would have a winner.
Two chance remarks helped propel me towards cruising- one person who'd been to see part of St Paul's journey taking in Ephesus, Rome and Malta, which we later did on NCL Jade; another who'd been on a bird watching cruise in N. Europe.
Celebrity cruises had wine cruises from Southampton this autumn, down to France, Spain and Portugal- neighbours found it very good.
We met lots of people from the N American continent on a round the British Isles cruise, who were hoping to see places where their ancestors were born.
I'd like to do a journey taking in great gardens, and perhaps stately homes....and I'd love to take a journey to see famous volcanoes. I've been to Big Island, Hawaii; plenty of Caribbean volcanoes, including sailing past Montserrat at night and seeing 3 bursts of fire; and of course Stromboli and Etna.
We were booked, and had paid, for a Celtic study break in Ireland once. At the last minute, it was cancelled and our money returned. We'd booked time off work, so made a frantic search for somewhere to go- 2 days later we ended up at Disney World! Hardly a study break, but very entertaining!![]()

I do love cruising. I also think with cruising you can "test out" certain destinations to see if it is something you may like for a longer, land based trip!
We've done this too: Santorini is such a heart stopper, and a day from a cruise is never enough, so we flew back in the autumn, and stayed at the cheap side of the island.....it was only 20 mins on the bus to the dramatic side, so no real problem.
