Depends on the amenities of the hotel I am staying at. Certainly when I travel in Italy I don't stay at a hotel with a spa or pool and only seldom a restaurant other than the breakfast room. The hotel I like in Venice has a very nice bar, where hotel guests have a 10% off card (last time anyway). I often went in there for a glass of prosecco, which comes with snacks, while I wrote in my journal. In Naples my hotel of choice, though I may have to change that since it had gone down some, has a very nice restaurant, still very good last time. Since the hotel is in the main train station area, the restaurant there was handy. In Rome I have used the breakfast room to eat my lunch time panini and read or write if I am near the hotel.
Can't remember staying in a U.S. hotel with a spa or pool either. Actually I almost always pick my hotel to be within walking distance of places I want to see/visit or near public transportation. I learn this by reading quite a bit first.

Hmm, I rarely use any except sometimes the restaurant (and that's only if there are very limited choices nearby). I hate gyms in general, so I never bother with the fitness center.

Definitely depends upon the hotel & where I am.....I won't book a hotel if it doesn't have what I know I'll need but I guess that's obvious! Last year in London, I was at a cozy B&B in a sort of posh area. I never went done for what always smelled like a delicious breakfast (I hear it was big too) because I was just too tired. I rarely pass up "breakfast included!" & I think few do so it explains why the managers came to my door AND rang my phone wondering if I was "alright?" as it was rather difficult to convince them I was.

Weeks later I was leaving London at a 4**** & was downstairs quite often. Go figure. Different amenities, I was a bit more rested
