Smile Samana, Dominican Republic

We are going to the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo near Las Terrenas in Samana, Dominican Republic on Feb. 6th until the 20th and are looking very forward to staying at this resort and beach area. We have been to the D.R. six times before (Santo Domingo Juan Dolio Beach once, Puerto Plata once and Punta Cana four times) but this is our first time to Samana.
Is there anyone else going to be there at this time of the year?
Happy Traveling
Ron

Ron,

You'll love that area of the country. It also looks like you have made an excellent choice of hotel.

Depending on how adventurous you are you may want to check out Playa Rincon. It is relatively close to where you are going to be staying and is one of the most beautiful beaches I have been to. If you search for it you'll find plenty of pics online. It would be a fun day trip to check out a very natural beach.

Enjoy!

Hi Ross
Thank you for the reply and we are looking very forward to going to that area of the D.R. Plus, we also wanted to get there before the construction boom starts and it turns into another Punta Cana. That makes me feel good, knowing that we made a fab choice of a resort. We love the D.R. so much because of the Dominican people, the scenery and weather.
It looks like you have moved there, is this correct? You lucky, lucky, lucky man.
Thanks for the tip on Playa Rincon and we will be sure to book an excursion to that area.
Thank you again Ross.
Ron

Hey Ron!

Yes, I call the Dominican Republic home. I still do a lot of work in the US, so I travel constantly but my home is in Santo Domingo and I am lucky enough to be able to spend about half of my time here.

I am glad to hear you are smitten by this place. I still find so many Dominican things absolutely amazing...

In my opinion, you are going to be where you can see some of the best areas of the country. It is nice to visit a country and enjoy the luxury of a high end hotel or all inclusive resort, but I did not really find out how much I liked the DR until I had seen places like Playa Rincon, Isla Catalina or Bajia de Las Aguilas. I really appreciate the natural beaches and getting away from all the tourists. When we go for weekend trips we try to mix it up between touristy places and then the more unknown hideaways.

Enjoy your time in the Dominican Republic!

All my Best!
