Just returned from a week holiday with my 2 young girls from Cayo Coco Cuba. My brother and his family and my mother were down a week earlier than me and we meet them for the second week of their 2 week holiday. Here is my review of the hotel and what you should expect.
Hotel: Brand New hotel, rooms are great and everything is very clean, staff, food very good. BUT there were many problems as a result of this newness. Sewer problems, no hot water and at times no water at all. The situation become such as problem that we were transferred to another Hotel the Iberostar Daquri. Plumber on site told us that the hotel admin was told that the resort should not have opened until these problems were rectified. Beach is very nice, low tide in the afternoon allows you to walk out a great distance, very cool. Not much night life, a little boring but if your just looking to relax and hang out the Piano bar is great! Pool Water FREEZING COLD!! the hotel grounds..BARE, BARE, BARE No tropical trees, flowers etc, no grass...this really bothered me although i must say i never really realized it until i went to the other hotel and saw what i was missing. Overall i wouldnt recommend anyone travelling here for at least a year or so. Mainly because although the price was good, it wasnt free. I think this resort will be great in a few years when they have gotten all the kinks out and the grounds have had time to bloom. I travelled Air Canada Vacations from Toronto, they were great about transferring us (we were one of many) and I was told that if you have booked and would like to change you could do so ahead of time. All nine of us were tranferred to the Iberostar. I much preferred it, overall it was no comparision. Dont expect good drinks anywhere in cuba..I do recommend the Blue Hawaii though. night entertainment was much much better here as well. Grounds are beautiful. Airport is new and clean but Cayo Coco is in a newly developed area and there is nothing around. You are very isolated. Weather was just OK, high high winds, they said it was one notch under a cyclone at times when we were there. Sometimes so bad you couldnt be at the beach..sand storm. When the wind died down it was hot but overall the skies were somewhat cloudy. Cubans said that the weather has been not been great the last few months. So if you want better weather you should not consider cuba for a while. Hope this helps!! mich email me if you have comments or questions |

Hello Mitch, nice review. I am thinking of going to Cuba in December of 2004 and need some tips as well as new friends that would like to go with me to Cuba. Do you know if anyone who might be interested? I am a single female living in CO in the States. But I am very adventurous and love to travel. My email is varvaram@yahoo.com if you know of anyone who might be interested.
